Willow Oak (Quercus phellos)

Quercus phellos, the willow oak, is a North American deciduous tree in the red oak group. It is native to the eastern and central United States from Long Island Sound south to northern Florida, and west to southernmost Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and eastern Texas. This member of the mighty oak family and comes with a stand-out feature: willow-like leaves. The willow oak is one of the most popular trees for horticultural planting due to its rapid growth, hardiness, balanced proportions, and ability to withstand both sun and shade. Willow oaks are heavily used in landscaping in the Southern U.S. around malls, along roads, etc., sometimes growing larger than planners expect, which can lead to cracked sidewalks. This one is well situated several feet from the road and walkways.
