National Night Out 2025 – A Huge Success!
Avon Park was bustling on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 5, as about 75-80 neighbors gathered for our first-ever participation in National Night Out. We were honored to be joined by several Memphis Police Department officers from Tillman Station, including the newly named Colonel Alyssa Lesueur and second-in-command Major Adam Pickering, as well as firemen from Memphis Fire Department’s Station 21 (Mendenhall at Sanderlin) who arrived in a pumper truck for the kids (and adults) to admire!
Neighbors got the chance to get acquainted, meet our Neighborhood Watch Block Captains, as well as discuss pressing neighborhood crime issues from the MPD. The park was festively decorated with NNO balloons, and free Avon Woods “Important Numbers” refrigerator magnets and pocket-size flashlights were given away to attendees.
The weather was perfect — a delightful break from the previous week’s heat wave — but not too cool for a steady flow of customers who enjoyed Mr. Joe’s Ice Cream.
BIG thanks to our volunteer coordinators: Amanda Von Stein, Derrick Von Stein, Paige Wallace, Ryan “Torrent” Johnston, Sally Fineup, Jay Perdue, Lisa Jo Perdue (photo credit!) — and, of course, Avon Woods Neighborhood Watch lead Mary K. Allen.
