Neighborhood Watch Quarterly Meeting Q1 2026

March 5 @ 6:30 PM 7:30 PM

Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 5 at 6:30pm for the first 2026 quarterly meeting of Avon Woods Neighborhood Watch at Independent Presbyterian Church.

SPECIAL TOPIC: CODE ENFORCEMENT

We are pleased to have Kevin Boone from the City of Memphis Department of Housing Code Enforcement, as our guest speaker at this quarter’s Neighborhood Watch Meeting. Kevin will share insight into how the City’s Code Enforcement division works to protect and improve the health, safety and quality of life in our community. The department plays a vital role in enforcing housing and property maintenance standards to help keep our neighborhood safe and attractive.

Whether you’ve wondered how to report problem properties or are curious about city efforts to reduce blight, this will be a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about local code enforcement efforts. Possible topics of discussion include:

  • Overview of Code Enforcement’s mission and role in Memphis
  • Minimum housing standards and what they mean for homeowners and renters
  • How the City enforces ordinances related to inoperable or abandoned vehicles
  • Reporting a complaint
  • Special operations and condemnation procedures
  • Blight reduction efforts and neighborhood impact
  • Cooperation between residents and city departments
AGENDA

Other agenda items for this quarter’s meeting include:

  • Area Crime Report: Year-to-date recap of crime incidents reported by Avon Woods block captains
  • Block Captains Coverage: A look at where we have coverage and where we need block captain volunteers
  • Upcoming Events: Looking ahead to 2026 — Food Truck Season and our first-ever Avon Woods Neighborhood Yard Sale!

WHAT IS NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH?

Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the participation of residents in cooperation with the Memphis Police Department to reduce crime, improve the quality of life, and establish a sense of well-being by watching out for one another in our area. The Neighborhood Watch Program is a highly successful effort and proven deterrent to crime that has been in existence for more than 50 years in cities and counties across America — and several neighborhoods throughout Memphis.

Neighborhood Watch is FREE. There is no cost to attend this event.
