The Avon Woods Neighborhood Association is sponsoring “Active Shooter Response Training” led by Shelby County Emergency Management Homeland Security, the evening of Thursday, June 4. In this one-hour session, participants will learn how to prepare to respond with clarity and confidence in the face of an active shooter situation. This training provides practical guidance to recognize danger, make critical decisions, and take action to protect yourself and others in public spaces. Case studies of past events will be exhibited with advice on countering similar events.

The Shelby County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency serves as the county’s lead organization for emergency preparedness, disaster response, recovery, and homeland security coordination. Working closely with local, state, federal, and community partners, the agency develops strategic plans, conducts training and exercises, manages emergency operations, and promotes public readiness to help protect the community from natural disasters, public safety threats, and other emergencies across Shelby County.
