DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for Thursday\, March 5 at 6:30pm for the first 2026 quarterly meeting of Avon Woods Neighborhood Watch at Independent Presbyterian Church. \n\n\n\nSPECIAL TOPIC: CODE ENFORCEMENT\n\n\n\nWe are pleased to have a representative from the City of Memphis Department of Housing Code Enforcement\, as our guest speaker at this quarter’s Neighborhood Watch Meeting. They will share insight into how the City’s Code Enforcement division works to protect and improve the health\, safety and quality of life in our community. The department plays a vital role in enforcing housing and property maintenance standards to help keep our neighborhood safe and attractive. \n\n\n\nWhether you’ve wondered how to report problem properties or are curious about city efforts to reduce blight\, this will be a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about local code enforcement efforts. Possible topics of discussion include: \n\n\n\n\nOverview of Code Enforcement’s mission and role in Memphis\n\n\n\nMinimum housing standards and what they mean for homeowners and renters\n\n\n\nHow the City enforces ordinances related to inoperable or abandoned vehicles\n\n\n\nReporting a complaint\n\n\n\nSpecial operations and condemnation procedures\n\n\n\nBlight reduction efforts and neighborhood impact\n\n\n\nCooperation between residents and city departments\n\n\n\n\nAGENDA\n\n\n\nOther agenda items for this quarter’s meeting include: \n\n\n\n\nArea Crime Report: Year-to-date recap of crime incidents reported by Avon Woods block captains\n\n\n\nMemphis Police Department: Representatives from Tillman Precinct will be on hand to respond to your questions regarding crime and safety — and to simply get acquainted\n\n\n\nBlock Captains Coverage: A look at where we have coverage and where we need block captain volunteers\n\n\n\nUpcoming Events: Looking ahead to 2026 — Food Truck Season and our first-ever Avon Woods Neighborhood Yard Sale!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWHAT IS NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH?\n\n\n\nNeighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the participation of residents in cooperation with the Memphis Police Department to reduce crime\, improve the quality of life\, and establish a sense of well-being by watching out for one another in our area. The Neighborhood Watch Program is a highly successful effort and proven deterrent to crime that has been in existence for more than 50 years in cities and counties across America — and several neighborhoods throughout Memphis. \n\n\n\nNeighborhood Watch is FREE.
