DESCRIPTION:Crime is no longer something that happens to someone else\, in some other neighborhood. We are all affected by it. It’s time we band together as Avon Woods neighbors to do something. Join us the evening of Thursday\, March 21\, at White Station Elementary as we kick-off our efforts to form an Avon Woods Neighborhood Watch. \n\n\n\nNeighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the participation of residents in cooperation with the Memphis Police Department to reduce crime\, improve the quality of life\, and establish a sense of well-being by watching out for one another in our area. The Neighborhood Watch Program is a highly successful effort and proven deterrent to crime that has been in existence for more than 50 years in cities and counties across America — and several neighborhoods throughout Memphis. There is no cost to join. \n\n\n\nWe will be joined by a Neighborhood Watch representative from the Memphis Police Department\, who will introduce us to the basics of forming an official Neighborhood Watch. The program will provide crime prevention education and awareness\, personal property identification\, and home security tactics. \n\n\n\nWe will discuss your neighborhood concerns\, develop an action plan\, and begin to identify block captains for each street section in Avon Woods. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease join us in the library at White Station Elementary\, 4840 Chickasaw Rd.\, graciously opened to us by Principal Bradley K. Breeden. Please park and enter the building through the entrance facing the west parking lot behind Avon School. \n\n\n\nHelp spread the news. The Green Beetle food truck was such a hit last time — even during a constant downpour — that we thought we would bring them back in hopes for better weather! Memphis’s oldest tavern (established 1939)\, The Green Beetle now brings their Southern-influenced comfort food to you with some favorites from their South Main Street Memphis landmark\, like Bacon BBQ Burger\, Smoked Chicken Sandwich and Dirty Bird Fries. \n\n\n\nSave room for dessert! Our very own neighbor\, Mr. Joe’s Ice Cream truck will be selling cold sweet treats as well. \n\n\n\nPlease bring a chair or picnic blanket\, and come out for a little while to get to know your Avon Woods neighbors!

We will begin gathering at 9:30am in front of Avon School and begin the parade around the neighborhood at 10am. Come and enjoy:\n\n 	Music\n 	Mr. Joe’s Ice Cream Truck ($3-5 per treat)\n 	Post-parade hot dogs\, chips and bottled water\n 	Post-parade bouncy house inflatable (until approx. 1pm)\n\nBecome a Member — This is when we encourage folks to renew their Avon Wood Neighborhood commitment.
